Lolomix 11: Lolo's Communication Mix

UPDATE: Lolomix 11 link is now working! It's good to talk! Lolo's 11th mix is all about communicating. The Lolomix series is always madly varied but this groovy collection about communication is about as mixed-up as it gets and the only place you will ever see Cliff Richard cozying up in such close proximity to Fuck Buttons. I just hope they don't molest him. Download Lolomix 11: Lolo's Communication Cheap Time- People Talk Vivian Girls- Tell the World Wolf Parade- Language City Gang Gang Dance- First Communication A Flock of Seagulls- Telecommunication Neon Neon- I Told her on Alderaan Talking Heads- Warning Sign Cliff Richard- We don't Talk Anymore Eels- Birdgirl on the Cell Phone Arthur Russell- I couldn't say it to your Face Misophone- The Sea has Spoken Fuck Buttons- Okay, Lets talk about Magic If ya find yourself at a loose end on Thursday, I recommend you go to the Analogue night in the Twisted Pepper. Dublin Duck Dispensary is a sort of one-man satanic carnival out to corrupt our ear drums with his sloppy garage-rock. He does a neato line in music blogging an' all! Finally. A two word review of Built to Spill in Dublin last week. Fuckin' Magic.

We Don't Talk Anymore? Bloody brilliant.

You've reminded me of the Absolute Pop Genius that was Alan Tarney. He wrote WDTA. He also produced and wrote Barbara Dixon's 1980 hit "January February", which I think I'll post on my blog right now (because links don't work in these comments sections as far as I know). That was another brilliant single. Then he went on to produce all of A-ha's string of hit singles; The Sun Always Shines On TV, Take On Me, Cry Wolf, Stay On These Roads, The Blood That Moves The Body etc. If you don't already own A-ha's singles comp Headlines and Deadlines, I'll copy it for you. It's amazing. After a fallow period, Saint Etienne got him in to produce the single version of You're In A Bad Way and subsequently Pulp had him mix the single version of Disco 2000. His records have this big, beaming, bright sound. I don't know what he's up to these days. I must Google him.

And on the subject of Cliff, I've always loved his singles from the late 70s, early 80s. Carrie (Cliff's first top 10 hit of the 80s) is completely brilliant - really dark and moody, and Wired For Sound is quite good too.

Neon Neon's album is terrific isn't it? One of the very best of the year. And I'm delighted to see A Flock Of Seagulls get a look in on your play list.

Thanks for the comment Ciaran.
I'm a big fan of Sir Cliff's 70s/80s stuff too, Wired for Sound would be my favourite. A Flock of Seagulls are another band so cruelly overlooked, presumably for their dreadful hair.

I'm dissapointed I missed Neon Neon in Tripod there recently, haven't a clue what I was doing instead, but it was obviously more important!
See you at Twisted Pepper tomorrow night :)
